House of the Dragon Season 3 to Open With the Battle of the Gullet — Movieweb

House of the Dragon’s third season is set to begin with a cold open portraying the Battle of the Gullet, HBO has confirmed, with the series slated for release in June 2026. Season 2’s finale had shown characters like Alyn, Corlys and Rhaenyra’s new dragonriders suiting up for large-scale clashes, leaving viewers to wait for the promised confrontations.

Creators have suggested at least four major conflict sequences will feature early in Season 3. The Gullet is a pivotal naval engagement in the Dance of the Dragons, tied to Rhaenyra’s use of House Velaryon’s fleet to blockade King’s Landing and cut the city off from imports, a strategy that contributed to the starvation of the smallfolk.

Tyland Lannister’s voyage to Essos seeking the Triarchy’s aid for the Greens, and the wartime maneuvers first hinted at in Season 2, set the stage for that maritime showdown. Showrunners say the decision to postpone the battle was driven by production constraints.
