How Lexi Howard's 'Our Life' Stage Play Became Euphoria Season 2's Wildest Moment
With Euphoria due back for a third season this April on HBO, Collider revisits one of the show's most memorable set pieces: Lexi Howard's homemade stage play, Our Life, from Season 2. Lexi, played by Maude Apatow, spent Season 1 largely in the shadows as Cassie’s sister and Rue’s steady support.
After witnessing the show's chaos, she channels her outsider perspective into a full-scale theatrical production that announces her presence in Season 2. Our Life debuts in the penultimate episode, "The Theater and Its Doubles," and is blatantly autobiographical — each character and plot beat maps back to Rue, Cassie, Nate, and Maddy.
The play even includes a locker-room musical number in which Ethan (Austin Abrams) performs a homoerotic rendition of "Holding Out for a Hero," and it helps Lexi form an unlikely bond with Fezco (the late Angus Cloud). Collider notes the sequence is maximalist and self-aware: the production values and choreography feel Broadway-level, amplified by disorienting editing, flashing lights and stylized camera work.
Audience reactions drive much of the comedy — Maddy’s line, "Wait, is this f--king play about us?" became a meme — while Rue revels in it, Nate storms off, Cassie crashes the stage and Jules watches in second-hand embarrassment. The episode set the table for the later fight between Cassie and Maddy and was hailed as a triumphant coming-out moment for Lexi.
