How to beat Nioh 3’s prologue boss Yamagata Masakage

Nioh 3 is Team Ninja’s new open-world-ish Soulslike, and the demo includes a prologue boss fight against Yamagata Masakage. He might kill you a bunch, and some players may think the game isn’t for them. That would be a poor reason to miss an otherwise very good video game.

If the fight is getting rough, grind enemies until you have enough Amrita to reach level six or seven and put points into Constitution and Strength. You’ll get better armor drops by farming—there’s a Yokai behind the last shrine before the boss you can kill repeatedly.

The area also teaches summoning: spend Ochoko cups at the blue pools to call AI-controlled Acolytes, which can make the fight much easier. Study Masakage’s limited attack patterns so you know when to watch, wait, and be aggressive. In Ninja stance it’s easier to play keep-away.
