Amazon’s Fallout TV show season two prominently featured New Vegas, and Kotaku says the best way to play Fallout: New Vegas in 2026 is on PC with mods, using the Viva New Vegas comprehensive mod guide. Kotaku reports the Viva New Vegas guide doesn’t try to remake the game but fixes the messy PC port for modern machines, reducing crashes and performance issues and making New Vegas run soundly on a modern PC.

The guide can also be used on Steam Deck. The guide offers optional mods and quality-of-life tweaks—examples Kotaku cites include adding more NPCs, a sprint button, and improved textures that preserve the original game’s vibe. The guide lets players pick and choose what to install, though Kotaku notes modding can take around an hour or two.

For Xbox owners, Kotaku recommends the Series X/S version with FPS Boost: you need to own New Vegas on Xbox, install it, and turn on FPS Boost in the game’s compatibility settings to play at 60 FPS. That version runs at 720p, has no mod support, but is generally more stable than the original 360/PS3 ports.

Kotaku calls the PlayStation route the worst option: PS3 games don’t support native playback on PS5 and must be streamed from the cloud, which requires a good connection and still lacks the 60 FPS boost and mod options. Kotaku says Amazon’s Luna streaming runs better than the PlayStation cloud option and supports mouse and keyboard, but it also offers no mods.
