How to use Lockdown Mode: iPhone feature that blocked FBI access — Latest news

Lockdown Mode is an extreme iPhone security feature that drastically limits functionality to stop targeted attacks. It is meant for people facing serious threats — reporters, politicians, activists — and has drawn attention after court records reportedly show agents were unable to extract data from a seized journalist's phone while Lockdown Mode was enabled.

When enabled, Lockdown Mode blocks most message attachments and link previews, restricts advanced web technologies and incoming FaceTime calls from people you have not previously called, and disables features such as SharePlay, Live Photos and Game Center. It also removes shared photo albums, strips location data from shared images, requires devices to be unlocked before connecting to accessories or computers, blocks automatically joining nonsecure Wi-Fi networks and 2G and 3G cellular connectivity, and prevents configuration profiles from being installed.
