Fans revive Hyper Scape, Ubisoft’s forgotten 2020 battle royale
Hyper Scape, Ubisoft’s 2020 battle royale, arrived with a strong beta showing on Twitch but faltered after its full release. Critics gave it middling scores across its three platforms, and common complaints included an uninspired map, a sense that winning relied on random factors, and a generally generic presentation.
Ubisoft announced a systems revamp in October 2020, but it came too late to reverse the decline. Now a group of dedicated players is working to restore the game. The Hyper Scape Revival project aims to bring the title back exactly as fans remember it and is being led by a user known as Fiirce on X.
In their initial post they wrote, "Singleplayer [sic] works for now, will be awhile before anything multiplayer works (could be months or even years). Early alpha/private for now," and shared an almost two-minute video showing the game working.
