I've visited many cities, but Montreal was the first place that felt like it might be home. From the moment I arrived, a sense of serendipity settled in. By the time I left I was already checking rental prices and how long I could legally stay — a rare reaction after years of traveling across the United States, Central America, and Europe.

Nightlife was an early draw. The city pulses after dark and felt welcoming even as a solo female traveler: chatting with bartenders, striking up conversations at pubs, or riding late trains back to my Airbnb. My first stops were Pub Saint Pierre and Barrelmans Bar in Old Town, where a potato mille-feuille with garlic butter and goat cheese was unforgettable.

Atwater Cocktail Club impressed with its crafted drinks and French-inspired plates, and wine bars like Rouge Gorge and Casavant offered memorable service and romantic vibes. The food scene kept surprising me.
