I'm a Wizard, But I Dig blends strip-mining, spellcasting and cute creatures
I'm a Wizard, But I Dig is a mining sim that lives up to its name: you play a wizard who, armed with a pickaxe, digs through a mountain from a small garden that houses a magic duck and a quiet, slightly creepy beaver. Rather than circling the mountain to reach the castle, the demo encourages taking a straight shortcut through the rock.
Digging consumes stamina, so trips end when you have to return to bed to recharge. You can upgrade stamina and carrying capacity, and sell ores and gems to the generous garden duck for coins. Those coins buy potions and food to restore stamina, while wood for shoring up tunnels is bought from the beaver.
I settled into a strip‑mining rhythm, carving a main tunnel with offshoots, until a strange blue aura revealed the demo's boundary. The loop is simple but satisfying, and it left me wanting more; ideas such as added platforming or carving paths to reach better equipment could fit well in the full game.
