Pcgamer reported that the writer waited 25 years to play Dragon Quest 7 and found the 3DS remake, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, to be significantly streamlined compared with the original PlayStation release. Reimagined trims and reworks many chores and puzzles: the Sullied Sanctum puzzle is replaced by shining paths of light, the Alltrades Abbey block puzzle becomes a single‑level light beam and twisty mirror challenge, an arena clash finishes after four instead of six battles, and there is a near‑constant option for free worldwide teleportation.

Previously mandatory quests can now be optional, and island re‑exploration feels like a quick way to see the consequences of past actions rather than an asset‑recycling chore (the Regenstein tale is given optional treatment). The writer says the remake keeps private conversations, secrets, and heroic moments while giving the game forward momentum and less tedium.
