Industry returns for fourth series on BBC One and iPlayer
Industry, the BBC–HBO drama created by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, returns for a fourth series on iPlayer and BBC One from 12 January. The creators were filming the new run in a studio complex on the outskirts of Cardiff when they spoke about the show. Down and Kay describe Industry as intentionally niche and uncommercial, written for “that one person” who grasps its references and class cues.
The show has developed a cult following and critical praise since its 2020 debut, and by series three US viewers were numbering about 1.6 million per episode, the creators have said. For series four the pair say the drama will be more expansive and electrifying, introducing a dodgy payments company called Tender and moving between Paris, Ghana, New York, Sunderland, an Austrian castle and a London council estate.
New cast members include Max Minghella, Kiernan Shipka, Charlie Heaton and Toheeb Jimoh, and the season will explore themes such as fraud, the “march of populism in Europe”, investigative journalism and the current predicament of the Labour party, the interview notes. Harper and Yasmin remain the story’s central figures, and the creators say one key question for returning characters is whether Rishi can repair himself after his previous arc; “that’s his story in season four,” Down says.
