Inter Miami sign Mexico international Germán Berterame from Monterrey for $15M
On Jan. 31, 2026, Inter Miami completed the signing of Mexican international Germán Berterame from CF Monterrey, the 27-year-old arriving as a Designated Player in a deal valued at around $15 million and set to reunite him with Lionel Messi and the club’s frontline.
Monterrey confirmed his departure on Friday, ending a contract that had originally run through December 2027. The transfer, valued at approximately $15 million, was completed after long-term negotiations between the two clubs.
Head coach Javier Mascherano pushed for the signing to round out Inter Miami’s attacking options, adding a proven scorer to a frontline led by Messi. Berterame had already caught the club’s attention during the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup, when he was named MVP against Inter Miami.
Born in Argentina and later naturalized as a Mexican international, Berterame arrived in Mexican football in 2019. He was Liga MX top scorer with Atlético de San Luis, a Liga MX All-Star in 2022, and scored 31 goals with Atlético de San Luis and 68 with Rayados for a total of 99 in Liga MX; at club level he has surpassed 100 career goals and has eight caps for Mexico.
Inter Miami will face Atlético Nacional this Saturday at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium in an international friendly, coming into the match after a 3-0 preseason defeat against Alianza Lima. Berterame will continue to push for a place in El Tri’s World Cup plans.
