Inter star called 'cheat' as Serie A chief apologises for wrong red card
Inter star Alessandro Bastoni has been branded a “cheat” after contributing significantly to Juventus rival Pierre Kalulu being shown a “clearly wrong” red card during a dramatic Serie A encounter at San Siro. Kalulu was sent off in the 42nd minute after a second yellow for supposedly pulling at Bastoni’s shirt; replays showed no contact but VAR cannot intervene in the distribution of yellow cards, so the decision stood and Juventus finished with 10 men in a 3-2 defeat as Inter snatched a 90th-minute winner.
Juventus officials confronted referee Federico La Penna at half-time, with Giorgio Chiellini saying: “What happened is unacceptable. We are here and not Luciano Spalletti for this very reason.” Chief executive Damien Comolli added: “It was a total injustice. Juve have lost three points.
But Italian football has lost even more. The first message is for our fans - I’m sorry for what they saw. We cannot fight, win, or play under these circumstances.
