Israeli Reservists Suspected of Betting on Military Operations — NYT > World > Middle East

Israeli military reservists and a civilian are suspected of using classified information to place bets on military operations on an online prediction platform, prosecutors said. Several people were arrested, and two of them — a reservist and the civilian — were charged this week with obstructing justice, bribery and “serious security offenses.” The case followed an investigation by the police, the military and the domestic intelligence agency Shin Bet into suspected gambling “based on classified information to which the reservists were exposed by virtue of their role in the army.” A gag order keeps identities and details secret.

The military said no operational harm had been caused and called the actions “a serious ethical lapse” that endangered state security. The bets were placed on Polymarket, a popular prediction platform.
