Jack McBrayer channels 30 Rock’s Kenneth in SNL cameo during Alexander Skarsgård’s episode
Comedian Jack McBrayer made a surprise cameo during the January 31 episode of Saturday Night Live, channeling his 30 Rock character Kenneth Parcell for a Weekend Update segment outside 30 Rockefeller Plaza with cast member Sarah Sherman.
Sherman, reporting on New York’s frigid conditions, smashed a plastic pigeon and revealed a sparkly dress before grabbing a man on the street to interview — prompting audience cheers when McBrayer appeared with a Kenneth-style grin and quipped, "I'm off duty tonight!" The cameo referenced the role McBrayer played for 139 episodes of 30 Rock, which is streaming on Peacock.
McBrayer was in Studio 8H to support friend Alexander Skarsgård, who hosted the episode. The two have been close for more than a decade, attending awards shows together and co-hosting a Funny or Die web series; McBrayer also appeared in Skarsgård’s Murderbot series. According to Cracked, they first bonded after realizing they were neighbors.
Backstage, McBrayer posed for a photo with three real NBC pages in the actual 30 Rock hallways — the photo was taken in the real building’s corridors, not the show’s recreated set.
Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays at 11:30/10:30c on NBC and streams the next day on Peacock.
