Jacob Elordi hospitalized after second-degree burn on Wuthering Heights set
Jacob Elordi said he suffered a second-degree burn while filming Wuthering Heights that landed him in the hospital, according to an interview he gave to Esquire. The actor said the injury occurred after he altered his showering routine on set.
Elordi contrasted the Wuthering Heights shoot with his time on Frankenstein, where he wore so much makeup during 10-hour days that he couldn’t be “bothered” to wash it all off. For Wuthering Heights, he said he was “covered in mange and dirt,” so he made a point of cleaning his feet properly each night.
Explaining how the injury happened, Elordi said, “So I went to clean my feet, and I leant back and my back seared into the steam knob and I stood up screaming; it tore up my back.” The burn was severe enough to require hospitalization.
Makeup artist Siân Miller had been designing fake scars on Elordi’s back for a scene and told him, “If Daniel Day-Lewis was playing Heathcliff, he would have come in with scars.” Elordi replied, “Well I’m going to go away and maim myself on the weekend to prove to you that I’m Heathcliff!”
The Esquire interview appears as the Wuthering Heights press tour has begun; the film’s Los Angeles premiere took place Jan. 28. The piece does not provide further details about Elordi’s recovery timeline or current condition.
