January's new moon in Capricorn will emerge on Jan. 18 and peak at 12:53 p.m., People reports. Celebrity astrologer Kyle Thomas tells the outlet that Capricorn "is a zodiac sign that rules society and its structures, ambition, professional goals and authority figures."

Thomas says the lunation is conjunct Mercury, Venus, Mars and Pluto, exactly sextile Saturn and sextile Neptune, with a trine to Uranus. He advises using this energy to "brainstorm your career goals for the year and start to take action to push matters in your favor," noting Mercury will aid balancing logic and emotion, Venus will bring "a heightened sense of beauty, inspiration, and joy," Mars will "fire up our desires, emotions, and ambitions," and Pluto may surface "powerful emotions and situations." He adds the Saturn sextile can bring stability if one is practical and persistent, Neptune sextile can bring synchronicity, and Uranus trine can open new opportunities.

Thomas offers sign-by-sign guidance — for example, he says Aries could see career advances, Capricorn should use the week after the new moon to take action, and Cancer may feel union-focused but should "hold off on any engagements or marriages until February" because Venus is retrograde in the partnership sector. He also notes that when the next full moon in Capricorn arrives on June 29, goals and plans set now will resurface and provide a chance to revisit progress.
