Jason Momoa says Lobo’s DCU future is uncertain after Supergirl debut
Jason Momoa has teased that the future of his snarling bounty hunter Lobo in the DCU is uncertain after the character’s big-screen debut in Supergirl, which is due June 26, 2026. Speaking to ScreenRant while promoting The Wrecking Crew, Momoa said he only knows Lobo appears in this one film.
“I only know Lobo's in this one, and so we'll see what the future of all that holds,” Momoa said, adding he would love a standalone project but isn’t privy to any plans. He described his first scene as “pretty gnarly,” said he grabbed the role “with gusto,” and suggested the character’s future may depend on audience reaction.
Lobo — a Czarnian anti-hero who has never before appeared on the big screen — follows Momoa’s run as Aquaman in the now-closed DCEU, which ended with 2023’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom after 16 movies. The only prior live-action Lobo was played by Emmett J. Scanlan in Krypton’s second season in 2019.
A recent trailer offered the first full look at Momoa’s Lobo, showing his motorbike, black leather jacket, dark eye markings and fangs; the anti-hero does not speak in the footage. Supergirl stars Milly Alcock and is directed by Craig Gillespie, with James Gunn and Peter Safran listed as producers.
What happens next remains unclear: Momoa says he’s not aware of further plans and indicated the character’s continuation may hinge on audience reaction and studio decisions rather than any confirmed roadmap.
