Jason Statham’s Shelter opens with 73% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes
Jason Statham’s new action movie Shelter has earned a 73% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes after the embargo lifted, based on 26 reviews as of Jan. 28; the film is set to open in theaters Jan. 30, 2026. The 73% rating comes from a sample of 26 critics and is therefore subject to change as more reviews arrive, Collider reported.
The film won’t have an audience score on the Popcornmeter until Friday or Saturday, when enough fans have seen it. For context, Shelter’s current Rotten Tomatoes score is higher than A Working Man’s 43% and slightly higher than The Beekeeper’s 71%. Collider also noted that A Working Man and The Beekeeper earned Verified Hot audience scores of 87% and 92% on the Popcornmeter, respectively.
Shelter follows a reclusive man (Statham) living on a remote coastal island who rescues a young girl (Bodhie Rae Breathnach), drawing both into danger and forcing him to confront his turbulent past. The cast also includes Naomi Ackie and Bill Nighy; Ric Roman Waugh directed and Ward Perry wrote the script.
The film’s runtime is 107 minutes. Collider added that Statham has one more 2026 release, Mutiny, due in theaters Aug. 21 and directed by Jean-François Richet with Annabelle Wallis co-starring. He is then scheduled to return in The Beekeeper 2, dated Jan. 15, 2027.
