Jay Manuel says Tyra Banks was 'prepared television' in ANTM doc
Former judge Jay Manuel said the “real” Tyra Banks was missing from Netflix’s Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, calling her “prepared television Tyra.” He made the comments during a sit-down with Sherri Shepherd alongside fellow judges Nigel Barker and Miss J Alexander, who also appear in the documentary.
The film chronicles an estrangement between Banks and the three judges. Manuel said their relationship shifted after he tried to leave the show in 2007 and Banks replied by email, “I am disappointed.” Their off-camera communication stopped; Manuel said Banks would only talk to him on camera and added, “That was a very strained relationship because she wouldn’t talk to me when the cameras weren’t rolling, and still, to this day, that really hurts.” Banks declined to discuss the fallout in the documentary, suggesting she should give him a ring — a call Manuel says he has not received and is not waiting for.
