The Miami Dolphins hired Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley as their next head coach, Cbssports reported. Hafley, who turns 47 in April, just finished his second season as the Packers' defensive coordinator; his unit ranked No. 12 in total defense (311.8 yards per game) and No.

11 in scoring defense (21.2 points per game). The Packers were eliminated in the wild card round last week after blowing the largest lead (18 points) in postseason franchise history to the Chicago Bears. Hafley previously spent four seasons as Boston College's head coach (going 22-26), served a season as Ohio State's co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach when the Buckeyes allowed 13.7 points and 259.7 yards per game, and has coached defensive backs in the NFL and at multiple colleges.

Miami recently hired former Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan as general manager, and Sullivan brought in Hafley to replace Mike McDaniel, who was fired after a 33-35 record over four seasons. McDaniel posted winning records in each of his first two seasons but went 15-19 over the last two years, failed to win a playoff game and went 4-17 against teams with winning records.
