Movieweb reports that Jeff Lindsay's supernatural Moloch twist from his Dexter novels could be used to deliver a controversial ending for the upcoming Paramount+ with Showtime series Dexter: Resurrection.

In Lindsay's 2007 novel Dexter in the Dark, the Dark Passenger is tied to an ancient death god called Moloch and a cult that worships death, a marked departure from the earlier, more grounded books and from the TV shows' portrayal of the Dark Passenger as a psychological compulsion. Lindsay began to move away from that supernatural turn starting with 2009's Dexter by Design, leaving Moloch and related lore ambiguous for readers.

The piece suggests Resurrection could embrace that "nuclear option"—revealing Dexter's compulsion as supernatural, removing the presence from him and potentially extending that explanation to other characters such as Harrison, which would reframe culpability across the franchise. It remains to be seen whether the series will take that genre-altering risk; Dexter: Resurrection is due July 13, 2025 on Paramount+ with Showtime and lists Marcos Siega as director and Clyde Phillips as creator.
