Nbc announced on January 13 that it has ordered a pilot titled Protection, and Jenna Bush Hager has joined the project as an executive producer.

Quantico creator and showrunner Josh Safran is writing the script, with Ben Spector also attached as an executive producer. On the January 14 episode of TODAY with Jenna and Sheinelle, Bush Hager described the series as exploring different levels of law enforcement, with some elements "based on Secret Service," and said "the twist is so good." She confirmed the twist appears in the first episode and said they hope to begin shooting this spring.

The official logline says Protection follows the Thornhill family after a U.S. Marshal falls in the line of duty and a seemingly cut-and-dry case becomes a deadly conspiracy as law enforcement agents "become the target of a mysterious assassin." It adds the family must use their expertise to protect one another and bring the killer to justice, "even if it means betraying their sworn code." A pilot order means an introductory episode will be produced, a milestone noted for the 44-year-old mother of three.
