Jérémy Jacquet linked with Liverpool and Chelsea as Rennes resist
Rennes defender Jérémy Jacquet is reportedly being pursued by Liverpool and Chelsea, with Chelsea apparently his preferred destination and Liverpool having stepped up their interest, the Guardian reports. Bayern Munich have also shown interest, though Rennes are determined to hang on to him for now and a summer move is considered likelier.
The piece notes there are only five days left of the winter window and that Manchester United could attempt an audacious bid for Cole Palmer, with Teamtalk claiming the move is 'building up a serious head of steam'. The Guardian adds that Palmer is under contract until 2033 and would cost a British-record £150m, according to the report.
The interim United manager Michael Carrick is said to want to keep Harry Maguire but could face an internal battle with club bosses who favour giving younger players such as Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven more playing time, the Guardian says. Other transfer suggestions in the report include a possible loan for James Ward-Prowse to Burnley, according to the Telegraph; Angel Gomes being on Wolves' radar after limited game time at Marseille; and Auxerre forward Lassine Sinayoko, who extended his contract to 2027, potentially being available for about £8m, with Coventry and Middlesbrough also linked.
