Director Joe Carnahan, 56, has been accused of sexual battery, stalking and assault by his former girlfriend, Michelle Crosby, 45, in a cross-complaint filed amid back-and-forth court filings after Carnahan accused her of damaging his Porsche, the legal papers show. In her cross-complaint, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Crosby alleged Carnahan showed a "pattern of physical violence," including an instance in which she says he held her by the neck and shoved her to the ground at his home.

She also alleged a 2024 sexual encounter "turned violent" when he "suddenly yanked her hair as she screamed for him to stop." Crosby called the alleged behavior "monstrous" and said such "grave matters demand accountability." According to the Riverside County DA’s office, a sexual battery claim against Carnahan was made last July but prosecutors did not file charges then, citing a "lack of sufficient evidence." Crosby also told the Los Angeles Police Department she had been stalked, though Carnahan was not charged at that time.

Crosby said a "resubmission of evidence" is under way and that she must "trust in the process." Carnahan has denied the accusations. His lawyer, Wendy Slavkin, said the relationship "was a completely consensual relationship which ended in Spring 2024" and alleged Crosby had threatened to attack Carnahan publicly when his film was released.
