Movieweb reports that John Hannah told RadioTimes he has heard rumors about a new The Mummy film and would be open to returning as thief Jonathan Carnahan.

Hannah said, "Not officially. I mean, I've heard and seen the rumors, same as everybody else, and that would be fun to do. It would be fun to hook up with everybody again," and noted he could not "imagine" how writers would convincingly bring Jonathan, Evelyn and Rick back together. The sequel to 2008's Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is said to be directed by Matt Bettinelli‑Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and Hannah relayed that "[Fraser] said that what they were looking to do was bring the original cast back together again," adding that Rachel Weisz was reportedly willing to return and that "If they asked me to do it, I'll do it."

Hannah also conceded he has no more concrete information than the public, saying, "I honestly have no more idea than you, from what I've read and stuff!" The report notes this talk follows the collapse of the Dark Universe and Brendan Fraser's vocal support for a reunion that focuses on "fun." Come April there will also be an unrelated Mummy film from Lee Cronin, produced by Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, which centers on the reappearance of a girl eight years after she went missing and a father who must perform a horrific ritual when an ancient evil spirit spreads to his other child.
