John Turturro says Severance Season 3 filming likely in July
John Turturro told Collider’s Perri Nemiroff at the Sundance Film Festival that rumors of Severance Season 3 beginning production in April are wrong and that he’s heard filming is more likely to start in July. Apple TV confirmed Severance was renewed for Season 3 on the same day as the Season 2 finale, and Ben Stiller has said the wait for Season 3 would be shorter than for Season 2.
When asked about the April reports, Turturro said, “No, I’ve heard July,” but added, “I don’t know nothing. I'm in the dark.” Nemiroff pressed about Turturro’s character Irving and he offered a glimpse of ideas he’s explored privately: “Yeah, but I don’t know if anyone knows about it.
It’s deep in my imagination... Well, last we know, he was on a train,” and he also said Irving “has a whole other life,” which aligns with fan interest in learning more about severed employees’ private lives. Collider notes Season 2 expanded on the outer personalities of severed employees, so that trend may continue in Season 3, even though a release window remains unannounced.
Turturro was at Sundance promoting his new film The Only Living Pickpocket in New York, which follows a veteran pickpocket sent to New York to fix a job that went awry and also stars Giancarlo Esposito and Steve Buscemi; the film has yet to secure distribution or a release date.
