John Wick Among HBO Max’s Top 10 Most Popular Films

John Wick, the 2014 action film that launched a franchise around Keanu Reeves’ antihero, is streaming on HBO Max in America and has been one of the service’s top 10 most popular movies for more than a week.

The story follows a former operative who became a myth during retirement; after his wife dies and the single gift she left him is destroyed, he is pulled back into the criminal underworld.

The film grossed $86 million on a $20 million budget and earned scores of 86% from critics and 82% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Lionsgate confirmed at CinemaCon in Las Vegas that another John Wick movie is in development, with Reeves and director Chad Stahelski expected to return, though it is too early to predict a release. The studio is also developing a spin-off focused on Donnie Yen’s Caine, introduced in John Wick: Chapter 4; Yen will both star in and direct that project. Ballerina was the first spin-off, introducing Ana de Armas as Eve and bringing back Reeves.
