Jonathan Scott transforms Zooey Deschanel’s mentor’s cluttered apartment

People reports HGTV star Jonathan Scott documented a full declutter and makeover of the apartment belonging to his fiancée Zooey Deschanel’s former high school film teacher, Jim, in a new video on the brothers’ YouTube channel.

Jonathan says Jim, 81, “was one of the biggest influences in her life” and responded after reading a text from Jim asking for help: “Jonathan, I have a huge favor to ask and I hope you understand my problem,” adding that he wanted his apartment to be his “Parisian Cinématique” and not be embarrassed to have anyone over. Scott found the space dangerously overrun — stacks of DVDs and boxes, exposed cables and a fire hazard — and boxed more than 100 containers of Jim’s belongings to move to a warehouse so Jim could sort what to keep or donate and the team could reimagine the layout.

The final reveal left Jim stunned: “Oh my god… I can’t believe… It feels miraculous. I was living in a hovel, and all of a sudden, it’s a palace!” The team also added a personal photo of Jonathan and Zooey; Jim observed that Deschanel “doesn’t age,” and Jonathan said “she looks like a starlet.” Jonathan reflected that Jim’s renewed excitement to host friends and former students could give him “a new lease on life and a start to the next chapter.”
