MovieWeb reports that Julia Garner has joined Charlize Theron in Tyrant, a high‑stakes culinary thriller for Amazon MGM Studios written and directed by David Weil.

Per Deadline, the feature will begin shooting later in the year and is co‑produced by Theron's Secret Menu banner (partners A. J. Dix and Beth Kono) alongside The Picture Company's Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona.

MovieWeb says the project is being dubbed the next Whiplash, suggesting a master‑and‑apprentice dynamic; Weil previously created Prime Video's Hunters.

The film marks Theron and Garner's first on‑screen collaboration. MovieWeb reports Weil's script sparked a bidding war when it went to market in August, and the project was subsequently fast‑tracked.

Garner joins Tyrant fresh off a busy run — she appeared in a reimagined Wolf Man, The Fantastic Four: First Steps (as the gender‑flipped Silver Surfer Shalla‑Bal) and Weapons, which together grossed over $825 million worldwide. At the London premiere of Fantastic Four she said she was initially confused by the gender flip but grateful that audiences have resonated with the role.
