Julia Roberts gets standing ovation while presenting at 2026 Golden Globes
People reports that Julia Roberts received a standing ovation from much of the audience when she presented the award for Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy at the 2026 Golden Globes at the Beverly Hilton on Jan. 11. As she took the stage Roberts said, "Thank you," then teased stragglers to rise: "Yup.
Everybody! Let's go! In the back! Come on!" She jokingly called on Emma Stone, saying, "She's like what the hell is going on right now?" Roberts added, "I’m gonna be impossible for at least a week. I appreciate that," and reflected, "What a great night. What a beautiful night to be an artist," adding, "This is 2026.
We’re going straight to the top on this." She ultimately presented the award to Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another, and later saw friend George Clooney presented the final prize and receive a ribbing from Don Cheadle about not getting a similar ovation. Roberts, 58, had been nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture for After the Hunt but lost the category to Jessie Buckley for Hamnet; during Buckley's acceptance she said, "Oh my God, the incredible women I am honored to stand beside in this category.
