Julianne Idlet, 65, was walking her Bernese Mountain dogs, Balto and Gurin, around London on the first Saturday in January, wearing a mustardy winter jacket. "People are always taking our picture," she said, referring to herself and the dogs.

She said the jacket was from the French brand Sézane and that she had bought it in Paris. "One of the things I liked about it was the softness," she added, noting she used to do a lot of sewing and that fabrics are important to her. The dogs were bundled in matching checkered scarves: "They live in those," she said. "Those are their signature statements."

Idlet said she and the dogs were temporarily living in England; their home is in New York. She is the founder of a bicycling program for elementary schoolchildren called Cycle Kids. Multiple people stopped to take pictures as she and the photographer chatted on the street, and she said of the attention, "They love it."
