Justine Triet's Fonda casts Mia Goth and Andrew Scott; Allison Janney in talks
Director Justine Triet is assembling the cast for her next psychological thriller, Fonda, with Deadline reporting that Mia Goth and Andrew Scott have joined the project. Frank Dillane and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett are also attached, and Oscar-winner Allison Janney is in negotiations, with production slated to begin this spring.
Deadline describes Fonda as a psycho-thriller set in a "seemingly idyllic huis cos" that "dives into the shifting limits of a sound mind, as grief and obsession take hold." According to the report, Goth was originally wanted in a supporting capacity but Triet upgraded her to the lead after being impressed.
MovieWeb notes Goth is "riding the crest of a wave right now," having recently worked with Guillermo del Toro and accumulated credits with directors such as Luca Guadagnino, Lars von Trier, Claire Denis and others. MovieWeb says Scott is fresh off the third Knives Out mystery (which MovieWeb dubbed the best of the lot so far) and has recently collaborated with Richard Linklater on Blue Moon and Andrew Haigh on All of Us Strangers.
The outlet highlights his standout turn in Netflix's Ripley. Managing director of mk2 Films Fionnuala Jamison said in a statement: "Fonda promises to bring audiences another major cinematic moment by delving into the depths of the human mind and resurfacing as a thriller of rare intelligence and emotional force destined to be a top awards contender and box office hit.
