Karyn Parsons and Alexandre Rockwell House Aspiring Filmmaker in Providence
People reports that actress and author Karyn Parsons and her husband, filmmaker Alexandre Rockwell, have opened their Providence, R.I., home to aspiring filmmaker Matthew Osubor after he ran into serious housing problems.
Their connection began with a chance meeting in a Whole Foods parking lot in spring 2024, and Osubor soon worked on Rockwell’s film The Projectionist. Rockwell, who has received honors at Sundance and Berlin and was until recently head of NYU’s graduate directing program, agreed to executive-produce Osubor’s Big Daddy’s Flowers, which was shot around Providence. Parsons appears in the film, and because Osubor had little budget he provided multimedia help to Parsons’s nonprofit Sweet Blackberry in lieu of payment.
Osubor, 27, now lives in the family’s finished attic and has grown close to Parsons, Rockwell and their son, Nico, 18, who also worked on the film. Big Daddy’s Flowers is due to be released early this year; beyond the current living arrangement and the films noted, the couple’s longer-term plans regarding Osubor were not detailed in the report.
