Kate Beckinsale has signed to star in The Savior, an action thriller from director Russell Mulcahy that follows a mother who must resurrect her violent past to rescue her kidnapped daughter from ruthless human traffickers, MovieWeb reported Jan. 29, 2026. Mulcahy, best known for the 1986 cult classic Highlander, also directed The Shadow and Resident Evil: Extinction and will helm the new film.

The Savior was written by Marc Furmie and Jason Mavraidis, based on a story by Corey Large. Filming on The Savior is expected to begin next month, with Large producing the project under his 308 Ent banner. Deadline describes the film as a wild combination of Man on Fire, Collateral and Sicario, with the atmosphere of Prisoners and Se7en, and MovieWeb suggested that mix points to a darker, more nightmarish take on the parent-rescue action subgenre.

Beckinsale returns to familiar territory after recent action roles in Canary Black, Stolen Girl and last year’s Wildcat, and first rose to action prominence with the Underworld franchise beginning in 2003. Corey Large said, "The Savior was based on the conceit that there is nothing a parent wouldn’t do to save their child – even if it means facing the darkest demons they have spent years burying.
