Kate Winslet says Mare of Easttown season 2 is likely, filming eyed for 2027
Movieweb reports that Kate Winslet said a second season of HBO's Mare of Easttown is now likely, but that production would not happen immediately and is expected to film in 2027. Winslet, whose turn as Mare Sheehan earned widespread acclaim, previously said the 2021 series felt "done and dusted, finished" and cautioned the show would return only if "the story's compelling enough." Speaking to Deadline, she offered a more optimistic outlook: "I think we probably will do it, and that's the first time I've felt that," adding, "It wouldn't actually be this year, I reckon it would end up being 2027 to film it.
There's a strong likelihood it would film sometime in 2027." The series earned a 95% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes and won awards for Winslet, Julianne Nicholson and Evan Peters. Showrunner Brad Ingelsby's other recent work includes the 2025 crime series Task, which the report says received a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score and is streaming on HBO Max; Task has been renewed for a second season that is in development.
The outlet also noted Mark Ruffalo teased that the two shows could "run into each other," saying, "At some point those two [shows] might run into each other in the future, that's what they're saying.
