Kevin Costner’s 139-Minute Western Open Range Sees Streaming Resurgence

Following Robert Duvall’s death on February 15, several of his films drew renewed attention, and one overlooked Western has resurfaced in streaming charts. Open Range, released August 15, 2003, originally opened to mostly positive reviews but arrived at a moment when audiences had less appetite for the genre.

Directed by and starring Kevin Costner, with Diego Luna in a pivotal supporting role, Open Range runs 139 minutes and grossed nearly $70 million worldwide against a reported $22 million budget. It holds a Certified Fresh 79% score on Rotten Tomatoes; the critics’ consensus reads, "Greatly benefiting from the tremendous chemistry between Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall, Open Range is a sturdy modern Western with classic roots." FlixPatrol placed the film among the most-watched movies on the domestic AMC+ chart this week, and it has reappeared on PVOD charts where younger viewers might discover it.
