HBO is developing a Baldur's Gate TV series helmed by Chernobyl and The Last of Us creator Craig Mazin. Larian has decisively moved on from Dungeons & Dragons, and with the series likely featuring a new adventuring party, some have questioned whether it can rightly be called a Baldur's Gate game.

Larian CEO Swen Vincke wrote that "The endings of BG3 were created so they could serve as narrative soil for new adventures," suggesting a show that builds on the game's conclusions makes sense. Publishing lead Michael Douse reacted more guardedly, tweeting, "I've spent the last eight to 10 years of my life with the writers & creators of Baldur's Gate 3 and they're the most incredible storytellers & creators in the space… I genuinely don't think anyone can trump our writers," and even threatened to "crash out on main." He added, "Don't abandon hope, but do expect the world.

That's the job." The fact that Mazin and his team are at least in touch with Larian has prompted some cautious optimism. And if it sucks?
