Larian Studios not involved in HBO's Baldur's Gate 3 adaptation
Baldur's Gate 3 is being adapted into a live-action series for HBO by Craig Mazin, but none of the developers at Larian Studios — including the game's writers — are involved, even though the show is said to continue the game's story. Reaction online has been mixed.
Michael Douse, Larian's director of publishing, wrote on X that he has "spent the last 8 to 10 years of my life with the writers & creators of Baldur's Gate 3" and hopes they receive proper credit and that the characters "are represented at the same level as the game." His X bio now reads, "the Chernobyl show was pretty good." After Geoff Keighley reported that Larian staff would not take part, Douse added, "Except that we made it popular enough for it to be referred to as Baldur's Gate 3." Larian CEO Swen Vincke took a more optimistic tone online, noting Mazin reached out to talk.
Still, many fans remain unconvinced that that outreach will translate into meaningful involvement.
