Las Vegas hit-and-run leaves new father hospitalized with brain bleed
People reports police in Las Vegas are investigating a hit-and-run on Monday, Jan. 12, around 5:15 p.m. local time that left a new father hospitalized with a brain bleed; family members later identified him as Matias Lagarreta.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said a white SUV, "possibly a 2020-2022 White Kia Sportage or similar vehicle," collided with Lagarreta's motorcycle at the intersection of Marion Drive and Lake Mead Boulevard, ejecting him; the driver then fled and the vehicle may have damage to its right side, investigators said. A GoFundMe organized for the family states he was rushed to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, including a brain bleed and bruised lungs, and was placed in the ICU in a medically induced coma. Speaking to FOX 5 Vegas, Lagarreta's wife, Ashley, said the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, on Dec. 15, 2025, and FOX 5 reported he woke from his coma on Thursday, Jan. 15; Ashley told the outlet she was able to tell him she loved him and he said it back, and she said she hopes the driver comes forward, adding, "It's scary to think that I could lose the father of my child."
The LVMPD asked anyone who witnessed the crash, has dash‑cam or doorbell footage, or recognizes the vehicle to contact police at 702-828-3595 or Crime Stoppers of Nevada at 702-385-5555, the department said.
