Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’s Season 27 episode “Hubris,” which aired Jan. 29, closed with a title slide reading “In Memory of John Leonidas” shown before the credits.

Leonidas was a longtime member of the SVU crew who worked in the show’s transportation department as a Captain, managing logistics and transport for production in New York City, according to his IMDb profile.

IMDb credits indicate Leonidas worked on SVU from 2004 to 2015, managing transport for more than 200 episodes over roughly 11 years, and that he had been a transport coordinator since the 1980s.

His résumé also lists longtime transportation work on Sex and the City and films including Glengarry Glen Ross, The Silence of the Lambs, Vanilla Sky, Men in Black and In Good Company, among others.

The honor came amid reminders of SVU’s long run and close cast-and-crew ties; Mariska Hargitay told NBC Insider in 2023 that she loves the show’s community and called the production “such a team.” The NBC Insider piece does not provide further details about Leonidas’s death.
