On Law & Order Season 25's "Never Say Goodbye," Detective Vincent Riley (Reid Scott) revealed his brother Matt Riley (played by Ryan Eggold) remains in a medically induced coma. The episode follows the 2-7 investigating the murder of retiring pilot Mark Turner, a case that broke open after detectives connected Turner to an FAA report about another pilot, Brian Leavy.

Turner’s killer, Brian’s widow Kate, said she was swayed to murder after spending hundreds of hours speaking with an AI-driven legacy avatar of her late husband. Detectives updated Lt. Jessica Brady (Maura Tierney) on the AI app, Memory Branch, which creates hyper-realistic simulations of deceased loved ones.

When Brady said, "That sounds terrible," Riley replied, "I mean, kinda, but I don't know. Part of me also gets it. My brother's in a coma. If I could talk to an avatar of him about the Yankees or something, I don’t know, maybe that would help." Matt’s hospitalization dates to Season 25’s earlier episode "Brotherly Love," after he was stabbed while preparing to testify in a homicide case.

Matt, who had a troubled past and was incarcerated in Season 24, woke briefly to testify virtually and help secure an arrest, but his condition later worsened and he was placed in a medically induced coma. A tearful Riley told him, "You did good, Matty. You did really good. I love you." Fans remain hopeful about Matt’s recovery, but his condition and what comes next for the Riley family remain unclear.
