Lee Cronin's The Mummy trailer leans toward Pet Sematary and Evil Dead
Warner Bros. has released the first full trailer for Lee Cronin's The Mummy, arriving two months before the film reaches cinemas. The footage looks as gnarly and nasty as many expected, given what Cronin did with Evil Dead Rise.
In the promo Jack Reynor asks Moon Knight star May Calamawy, "How many others were found?" as newspaper reports show girls being abducted in Cairo; she replies, "57," suggesting Katie isn't the only victim. Verónica Falcón, Shylo Molina, and Laia DaCosta round out the cast.
Cronin's take departs from the classic Boris Karloff Imhotep story and may unsettle some horror purists, but he has described the film to IGN as "one part Poltergeist," for its domestic and familial focus, and akin to David Fincher's Seven for its "dark, investigative angle."
Lee Cronin's The Mummy is scheduled to release on April 17.
