Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, revealed as a surprise at last year’s Gamescom: Opening Night Live, is set to launch on May 29 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a Switch 2 version expected later in the year. The game draws heavily from Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham series, placing a blocky Batman in an open-world Gotham where he glides and grapples between encounters, drives the Batmobile and a motorcycle, and fights with rhythmic punches, kicks and parries.

Kotaku’s preview noted the combat is QTE-driven and that familiar tools like explosive gel return. Legacy of the Dark Knight is co-op: one player controls Batman while a second can pick from a rotating roster of partners, including Catwoman, Jim Gordon, Nightwing, Robin and Talia al Ghul.

Each partner has a special ability needed at times to progress—Kotaku cites Gordon’s foam gun as an example—and players can swap characters on the fly when playing solo. The game also pays homage to many versions of Batman, with trailer cameos from the Christopher Nolan, Tim Burton and Matt Reeves film universes and a structure that traces a blocky retelling of Bruce Wayne’s path from orphan to vigilante.

Expect appearances from Bat Family members, Alfred and a range of villains named so far: the Joker, Bane, the Penguin and Poison Ivy; the outlet also suggests possible cameos from larger teams like the Justice League and League of Assassins.
