Leicester appeal six-point deduction as Premier League seeks harsher sanctions
Leicester City have formally appealed the six-point deduction imposed for breaching the Profit and Sustainability Rules. The Foxes, who are fighting for survival in the Championship, dropped to 22nd after the sanction and a six-game winless run, leaving them two points from safety.
The Premier League has lodged its own appeal, seeking stricter punishment. The case has become a legal standoff, with the league unhappy that the independent commission did not penalise the club for the late submission of accounts. The Premier League has said it wants the matter resolved quickly: "To provide certainty for all clubs and fans, the Premier League will be seeking to have the appeal resolved urgently, and in any event before the end of the EFL season." Both parties have submitted their appeals to the chair of the judicial panel and an independent appeal board will be appointed.
Leicester say the six-point loss is disproportionate and argue the commission overlooked significant mitigating factors.
