Goal reports that new Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior has insisted he will be in charge at the club and is content with the board’s involvement, saying he will make the decisions at the football club.

Rosenior has pushed back on suggestions he was appointed as a coach who would bow to the hierarchy, saying managers cannot be successful unless they make their own decisions. He spoke ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup third-round trip to The Valley to face Charlton on Saturday night. His predecessor Enzo Maresca was sacked after a series of pointed comments aimed at senior figures, having accused the club of a lack of support over injured-player reintegration and selection decisions.

Maresca had won the Conference League, qualified for this year’s Champions League and lifted the Club World Cup, but was let go on New Year’s Day. Rosenior has been entrusted to turn the team around and says he will be given enough control; he previously worked under the BlueCo ownership at Strasbourg, where the club finished seventh and qualified for the Conference League.
