Jack Wallen, a longtime Linux user, spent a week using Windows 11 to experience the operating system people use for work and personal use. He reported encountering a wide range of issues and said the experiment left him questioning the appeal of Windows.

Wallen detailed nine specific problems: creating a local account was difficult, Google passkeys would not work, an email app (Mailbird) displayed a blocking pop-up, natural scrolling would not stick to his preference, ads appeared in the interface, Save As defaulted to OneDrive, a msedgewebview2.exe process consumed significant resources, Virus and Threat Protection settings were confusing, and power and battery options did not behave as expected on a laptop.

Those issues made him feel out of control and worried about potential crashes or automatic reboots, and he said he never felt able to relax and just use the OS during the week.

At the end of the trial he returned to Linux and said the experience made him appreciate Linux more.
