Lola Young wins first Grammy for 'Messy,' drops F-word in acceptance
Lola Young won the Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 1, taking the trophy for her song "Messy." The 25-year-old was nominated alongside Justin Bieber for "DAISIES," Sabrina Carpenter for "Manchild," Lady Gaga for "Disease" and Chappell Roan for "The Subway." After Charli XCX announced her name, Young jumped up from her table and ran to the stage to accept the award.
On stage Young admitted she had no prepared remarks, saying, "I don’t have any speech prepared. Obviously, I don’t. It’s 'Messy,' do you know what I mean?" She added, "I don’t know what to say. Thank you so much. You can tell by my f---ing face. Sorry, sorry, sorry," and later, "I’m very, very grateful for this," before concluding, "Nick [Shymansky], we did it, Mom.
I love you." Her win comes four months after she collapsed on stage at the All Things Go festival in September 2025.
