Los Angeles Mayor Says Olympics Chairman Should Resign
Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles said that Casey Wasserman should resign as chairman of the 2028 Olympics after his name surfaced in the Epstein files. She told CNN that she "cannot fire him," noting only the nonprofit board that oversees the Olympics can replace him.
Ms. Bass is the highest-ranking elected official to call for his resignation, a rebuke that contrasts with organizers’ vote of confidence last week. Mr. Wasserman, 51, announced he was selling his business and would relinquish day-to-day control of his talent and sports marketing agency, saying his "limited interactions" two decades ago with Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein had become a "distraction." He apologized for emails that appeared in Justice Department documents; the exchanges dated to 2003 and, while racy, suggested no illegal conduct.
