M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap Finds New Streaming Momentum
According to Collider, M. Night Shyamalan rose to prominence with The Sixth Sense and followed with films such as Signs, The Village, and Split, while also releasing more critically mixed projects including Glass, Old, and Knock at the Cabin. In 2024 he flipped his usual formula and gave away the central twist for Trap in early previews.
Trap stars Josh Hartnett as Cooper, a father trying to give his daughter a day out by taking her to see pop superstar Lady Raven (Saleka Shyamalan). Upon arrival Cooper discovers the concert is actually a trap to catch a serial killer known as the Butcher; the film’s twist is that Cooper himself is the Butcher, and the story follows him as he attempts to outwit law enforcement while maintaining the appearance of a caring parent.
Audiences were divided on the film, marking another mixed entry in Shyamalan’s recent catalogue.
