People reports that Madison Beer said Justin Bieber was her "obsession" when she was 12 and that she kept a cardboard cutout of him in her room.

Beer made the comments during a Jan. 22 appearance on the Podcrushed podcast after host Penn Badgley asked who might have been in a locket for her at 12. "Transparently, Justin Bieber," she confessed, adding that one of her first Instagram posts showed a cardboard cutout of him and that "He was definitely my obsession." She recalled that in 2012 Bieber shared a video of her singing Etta James' "At Last" online, which she said propelled her career and had her "freaking out." Beer said she later met Bieber and signed with him, calling the experience a "whirlwind" and saying it was "nuts" for a girl who once kept him in a locket.

Her latest studio album, Locket, dropped on Jan. 16. In April of last year she told Cosmopolitan, "I love [Justin] and Hailey [Bieber] very much," and said she had known Hailey since she was 10 and Justin since she was 12, noting, "We’re still in each other’s lives and now they’re married with a baby." She also addressed being referred to as "the female Justin Bieber," saying the label arose because Scooter Braun had signed both artists and because they had each posted covers; she added that Justin was "only a teenager when I got signed" and "he hadn’t even experienced his adult life yet. He’s been through so much, too."
